New phishing scam- Jury Duty

Post by genka8 »

Распространено на работе, в подлинности не сомневаюсь:

The FBI is warning the public about a telephone call scheme aimed at gaining confidential personal information using the pretext of jury duty notification.

The Scam

Scammers posing as federal court employees are calling citizens and informing them that they have been selected for jury duty. The scammer asks to verify names and Social Security numbers, and then asks for credit card information. If the request is refused, the scammer threatens fines and prosecution for failing to comply with jury duty summons.

Federal courts DO NOT require anyone to provide any sensitive information via the telephone. Most contact between a federal court and a prospective juror will be through the U.S. Mail. Any phone calls from court officials will not include requests for Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, or any other sensitive information.

It is a crime for anyone to falsely represent himself or herself as a federal court official.

Your Action

If you receive one of these calls, DO NOT provide your personal information, especially your Social Security number or credit card numbers. The call is an attempt to steal your identity and use it to apply for credit cards, a line of credit, or other loans in your name.

If you’ve already provided confidential information to such a scammer, you should contact your local FBI office immediately and closely monitor your account statements and credit reports.

Я думаю, если поймают скамера, то ему будет грозить не меньше, чем укольчик или электротерапия?
