Now you are ethically enlightened. Seriously, it's a great feeling,--they don't call it the "min-bar" for nothing --it prepares you for the real thing
А я вчера официально подала 2 шеек нотице--оставляю работы аs an in-house tax counsel на которои была 5 лет, ever since I graduted law school. Я уже больше года мечтала организовать собственную фирму and to get away from tax law. За последние пару месяцев я случаино познакомилась s fellow attorney and it turns out we make perfect partners for a new start-up firm. We should be up and running sometime in September I'm very exited but also a little scared--after all, I just gave up the security of a stable paycheck. But, hey, I'm only 29--one way or another I'll find a way not to starve and, if all goes well, be better off than I were as a corporate slave--and more importantly--I now get to be my own boss and work on my own schedule

Trydno skazat' o Texase, mogy o Chicago skazat'. Tak chto klientyri more.

Back to immigration.
Another more interesting area within immigration law is appellate work. Appeals to Board of Immigration Appeals and Federal Circuit Courts are so much fun. First of all, the leagal fees are $4000-6000 which is already nice. Usually, there two types of cases:
The most common issue that generates most of the appeals is whether a certain crime is aggravated felony, or crime against moral turpitude within the meaning of the Immigration and Naturalization Act. Often you will argue absence/presence of the “intent” element of the offence. 90% of it – statutory interpretation. This area is always "gray"
Second, asylum application denials. You should try it at least once. You will not believe your eyes. First of all, credibility of the applicant decides the case, not the strength of your argument. Second, you will not believe how unprepared always government attorneys are. Often, even judge will laugh on their arguments and cross examination style. Most of the time they forget to reserve the right to appeal. Thus, if you win in BIA, that's the end.
As you see, even immigration can generate a substantial cash flow.

If you are 33 now, you will be 36-37 when you start working. I know a lot of people who enter law school at that age. I know people in their 50s. It is never too late, but there will be some limitations and obsticles that you will have to overcome.
You need to understand that you will probably have in excess of 100K in student loans when you graduate and you will be paying them for about 10 years.
You need to understand the difficulty of finding a well-paying job if you go to a lower ranked school.

That's true, as far as I can understand. I had been a tax attorney w/an oil company for 5 years. I have no accounting background but was recently offered a management-level position with Ernst&Young. I personally declined because I'm actually in the process of opening a general practice with a partner but 2 of my co-workers (also lawyers) recently accepted offers w/them. From what I understand, in E&Y and PWC half of senior tax managers are tax lawyers, half are tax accountants
