Britain's most senior Member of Parliament (MP) has found himself in the middle of a controversy over comments he made to a magazine alleging that a cabal of Jewish advisers is influencing British and American leaders.
Tam Dalyell, a left-wing Labor Party MP who helped to lead opposition to Blair's pro-war stance, made the remarks in an interview with Vanity Fair ---
In subsequent British interviews, Dalyell singled out one of Blair's confidants, Middle East envoy Lord Levy, for particular scorn.
"His influence has been very important, and this has led to what I see as this awful war and the sack of Baghdad," Dalyell said. ---
In the U.S. administration, Dalyell picked out Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, Assistant Secretary of State John Bolton and White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, among others. He accused "Likudniks" - supporters of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's party - of teaming up with "neo-Christian fundamentalists." ---
