MBA Essay -

Post by Vesta »

One thing you need to remember... people who will read your essay will be reading tons of them. So dont write boring stuff... it will not buy you any points.

Make sure you communicate CLEARLY
1. why you want to get an MBA
2. what experiences prepared you for b-school
3. how you stand out, what makes you different from the rest of applicants
4. what contribution you will be able to make to class discussions

And get couple people read your essay before you send it in.

On a separate note, preparing for GMAT for 3 years seems a little extreme to me. It barely took me 3 weeks. Were you working over the past 3 years? If not, be prepared to discuss it, especially in the interview (all decent programs interview all applicants they think of excepting).

Best of luck!

5. how MBA degree would help you to achieve your professional goals (i.e. what you gonna do with your MBA after graduation?)

1. why you want to get an MBA

I want to get an MBA in order to be able to find a decent interesting job, which challenges me. Is it a good answer? I cannot find such a job without a local degree. I don't want to start all over with BA, and want to take an advantage of my existing credentials.

On a separate note, preparing for GMAT for 3 years seems a little extreme to me. It barely took me 3 weeks.

Well, I came to the US 3 years ago. I didn't have any support (food stamps etc) and exact plans for the future. I wanted to look around, understand whether I want to stay put, learn language and decide on what future I want in this country if I'm staying.
Remembering my past experience and having good credentials for getting into a Business school, I finally made my mind and aspired after an MBA program.

Were you working over the past 3 years?

I'm an entrepreneur. I've been doing photo/video, trying to make ends meet, simultaneously studying English, learning about existing opportunities for my future education.

I moved to the US in xxxx. Over here, I started a photo/video company (?) that xxxxx (tell what it does). I earned considerable practical business experience running this enterprise. It was delightful to learn how supportive is the US government toward small business owners and how much help they enjoy.
After running my company for a while, however, I realized that there are some deficiencies in my business education. Despite my xxxx degree that I earned back in Ukraine, I feel that I lack knowledge in xxxx (copy names of some classes that they offer). I sincerely believe that obtaining a formal degree from you reputable school will substantially enhance my career in business in the US.

:fr:

Tip for you: some schools value entrepreneurship experience more than others... have you decided which schools you want to apply to? If you haven't, look at the ones that have strong programs in/support of entrepreneurship. I can give you one name: University of Maryland. If you position your application right, you might be able to get a decent scholarship that is hard to come by in good schools.

To a certain extent but still there is some difference. IMHO
