$7-10/hour master degree student
$10-15/hour PhD student

There are also significant differences in majors but these numbers give some idea.

Students can work up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the breaks.

And it is 'bad' to work off campus, though I know a lot of F-1 people who do. And although you are not supposed to work more than 20 hours a week during academic year and 40 hours during a period when school is not in session, there're ways around it (like working for a bookstore that is usually on a different payroll). You got the idea.
