party pooper is often if not mostly used in jest, not to be taken seriously.

For example,

People are standing around talking about where to go for the evening. Someone says "I know, let's go bowling!" Everyone says "Yes, let's!" But one person says "I don't want to because I went bowling last night." One of the others says "Oh, you're just a party pooper!"

But it's all in fun. An older term used in similar situations is "wet blanket". In the about situation they'd say "Oh, don't be a wet blanket!" Also humorous.

Sometimes marketing companies will do telephone surveys when they are trying to identify a name for a product. I remember one time they called me and asked me if I knew what "skinny dipping" meant. I did. A while later there was a perfume or something like that called Skinny Dipping. They wanted a name with a little bit of the risque attached to it.

"незашоренность" is another word not in my dictionaries! But "open mind" does mean a mind that is unbiassed, open to new ideas, to change. The opposite is "closed mind." "He has a closed mind" means that you can't put forth any argument that will convince him he is not right (concerning some point).

"Незашоренный" или "зашоренный" - от "шоры" - i.e. blinkers... I suppose, you can easily figure it out from this point [img:f47b45db17]http://www.privet.com/ubb/smile.gif[/img:f47b45db17]

What dictionary do you use? Try to get the Russian equivalent of Webster - Толковый словарь Даля или Ожегова (хуже, но современнее - make your pick). You'll wallow in the wealth of idiom and colorful usage!

My next expression to discuss:

- to "max out" (напр. someone's credit card)

Насколько я знаю, это значит - выбрать весь нынешний credit card limit (например, из-за больших неожиданных трат с этой карты). Я прав? (Особенно это выражение должно быть актуально для живущих в данный момент в U.S., ибо в России плохо развита система кредиток)

Хочу продолжить с вопросами.

Вот прочитал: [i:41bae67407][b:41bae67407]Make it a great day![/b:41bae67407][/i:41bae67407] и никак не могу врубиться. С одной стороны это что-то похожее на [i:41bae67407]You made my day![/i:41bae67407], но почему-то все наоборот.

И второй вопрос: something [i:41bae67407][b:41bae67407]was hands-down the best[/i:41bae67407][/b:41bae67407]. Это как понимать?
