Bombardier Inc. has scored a major win for its long-range C Series jet, landing a $3.1-billion (U.S.) order and erasing lingering concerns that the new aircraft was destined to remain stuck on the drawing board.
Since the Montreal-based manufacturer announced its intention to develop the plane in the summer of 2004, the jet program has suffered through a series of false starts. But yesterday's huge order with Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Inc. excited investors and analysts alike.
Republic, which operates several U.S. airlines, has placed a firm order for 40 planes.
