Hi, Elenka,
Most insurance companies have a "preexisting condition" policy. Those can be different, but most deny coverage for a six months to a year. In a case of a child, even if he has a preexisting condition, most states provide medical coverage anyway. You may want to contact the Department of Health and Human Services of CT and ask them, or ask Aetna directly. I can talk to someone on Monday, but I think if they are going to get a blanket coverage for the family, the children will be covered also.
Children have insulin DEPENDENT diabetes and do not require any "pills", they need insulin, and it is pretty cheap. Overall, medical care cost for him should not be too high.
