How to move from one dev tree to the other properly

In our office we move from one dev version to the other at least once a month. To avoid changing project properties in JBuilder most of people just have one working directory with neutral name on the machine and when tree changes, they just get latest version out of VSS to that same working folder. So essentially they are overwriting old tree.
I'd rather have previous tree at least for few days, but this is not very convenient because of project properties setup.

How do you do this? I just wonder if there is a better way to handle this.
