Here is an excellent research opportunity for science, engineering, mathematics, and technology students. Each summer the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory makes research positions available to community college students through the U.S. Department of Energy's Community College Initiative (CCI).
Applications are now open for the ten-week summer program. As you may know, the Department of Energy's National Laboratories are premier research institutions where your students will get cutting-edge, hands-on experience. The program offers a stipend and housing supplement which together amounts to $4750 for the ten-week program.
You can read about the program at Berkeley Lab at the website: http://www.lbl.gov/Education/CSEE/cup/CCI04/
Students can also go directly to the on-line application at the Department of Energy's site: http://www.scied.science.doe.gov/scied/CCI/about.html
Applications are open now and completed applications will be available for review from February 1 through April 1. Although applications are accepted after February 1, they will start making appointments right away, so students should have their applications complete as early as possible.
