The best thing - is to ask immediately after you receive an invitation (or when you are calling/writing back with acceptance)- "what should I bring"?
Often, the host/hostess would actually suggest (but unless you ask them they would not tell you to bring anything) - "may be a salad", "may be a dessert", "some kind of appetizer", "some beer or wine". It is very common particularly for Thanksgiving dinner to ask guests (the ones who volunteer [img:9361eb5a7d]http://www.privet.com/ubb/smile.gif[/img:9361eb5a7d]) to bring some side dish/dessert.
If the answer is "Nothing", take some wine (best choice, unless you have never seen the hosts drinking alcohol - or know that they do not drink) or flowers (potted flowring plants are preferred to cut flowers in most american housholds), or a nice cake from a good bakery. Chocolates/assorted sweets are less popular.

В гости на Thanksgiving
Наши друзья пригласили нас на Thanksgiving Dinner со своей весьма обширной семьей. Что принести с собой в подарок? Что принято? Коробку конфет? Бутылку вина?
