MISSION UPDATE
Falcon 1 Launch Scrubbed Until 2006
For 2:40 p.m. EST Monday, December 19, 2005
A structural issue, not high winds speed, has forced SpaceX
officials to once again scrub the launch of their first Falcon 1
rocket.
"We did find a structural issue with the first stage," said Gwynne
Shotwell, SpaceX vice president of business development. "It will
need to be repaired."
SpaceX officials will have to wait until early January 2006 to make
their next launch attempt, Shotwell said.
Earlier, winds were reportedly blowing faster than 24 knots, which
is the ground limit to launch the Falcon 1 rocket. Upper level winds
appear nominal for the flight. While set to launch at 2:00 p.m. EST
(1900 GMT) today, but went into a hold with 15 minutes remaining in
the countdown. The space shot had an eight-hour window to liftoff,
SpaceX officials said.
