Mr. Stanimir Vukicevic, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to Russia, answered Diplomat’s questions about his political career and plans in his new post.
I have been in the diplomatic service for more than 30 years now. I began my career in the Foreign Ministry’s Africa Department, and then worked in Somali in the height of the civil war in that country. Next, I was chief of our mission in Albania from 1995 to 1999, during the period of worsening relations between Belgrade and Tirana because of Kosovo, internal instability in Albania, and a whipping up of international tension over Serbia. When NATO started bombing Serbia, I left my post in Tirana and became chairman of the Committee on Cooperation with the UN mission in June 1999. After a year and a half of working in Pristina, I returned to Belgrade and was appointed Ambassador to Bosnia-Herzegovina, thus becoming Serbia’s first-ever Ambassador to the neighboring country in the wake of the recent war. Then I came back to Belgrade where I was deputy foreign minister prior
to my assignment to Moscow six months ago. I became the first Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Russian Federation.
